Youth Speaks Seattle - Grand Slam

STG Presents the Youth Speaks Seattle’s Grand Slam at The Moore Theatre in Seattle on Friday, March 19, 2010. The Seattle Youth Speaks Slam is a series of four competitive poetry performances, open to young people between the ages of 13-19, which are held every year from December through March. The 12 winners of these slams all come together in March to compete in an incredibly exciting Grand Slam to determine which 5 of them will represent Seattle at Brave New Voices: The National Youth Poetry Festival and Slam. The 2008 National Brave New Voices finals in Washington DC, was the subject of an eight-part HBO documentary narrated by Queen Latifah and produced by Russell Simmons.

Youth Speaks Seattle is the area's premier non-profit organization for youth poetry and spoken word. We work to create avenues for youth voices by providing creative writing instruction and performance opportunities for young people in the greater Seattle area.
