STG partners with the Meredith Matthews YMCA Black Achievers Program to expose students to a wide range of performing arts programs, and introduce students to career opportunities in the arts. Components of the STG/BAP partnership include:

  • Performances – Students attend performances at The Paramount and Moore Theatres. Past performances have included: The Color Purple, Savion Glover’s Bare Soundz, Gregory Maqoma and Vuyani Dance Theatre, and The Lion King.
  • Participatory Workshops – Local artists teach workshops in dance, music, and theatre.
  • Careers in the Arts workshop – Students attend a workshop/presentation at the Paramount Theatre exploring career opportunities in booking, marketing, education and technical theatre, along with a tour of theatre.

About Meredith Mathews YMCA Black Achievers Program
The YMCA of Greater Seattle Black Achievers Program is based at the Meredith Mathews East Madison YMCA. With the program components delivered on site and at Garfield, Franklin, Cleveland, and Rainier Beach High Schools, we offer high school youth opportunities to explore career options, develop leadership skills, prepare for college, and participate in service learning and social activities. Through caring relationships with local business professionals and high quality programming, Youth Achievers learn to set educational goals, understand professional standards, and strengthen developmental assets.
