STG, in partnership with the Booth Gardner Parkinson’s Care Center at Evergreen Hospital Medical Center and Spectrum Dance Company offers dance classes for individuals with Parkinson’s Disease and their caregivers. These classes are based on Dance for PDsm, a program developed by Mark Morris Dance Group and the Brooklyn Parkinson Group.
In each six-week series, participants stretch and strengthen muscles, focusing on balance and rhythm through many styles of dance. Working with professional dancers specially trained in the Dance for PDsm method, participants learn how to use thought, imagination, eyes, ears and touch to control movement. Whether seated or standing, people with Parkinson’s disease, caregivers and friends are encouraged to explore dance movements in a welcoming environment with LIVE MUSIC. No dance experience necessary.
