Creating joy and body connection through movement
“The joy is wonderful.” – Participant
Seattle Theatre Group offers dance classes for individuals with Parkinson’s Disease and their caregivers in Seattle, Kirkland and Des Moines, Washington. Participants stretch and strengthen muscles, focusing on balance and rhythm through many styles of dance. Working with professional dancers specially trained in the Dance for PD® method, participants learn how to use thought, imagination, eyes, ears and touch to control movement. Whether seated or standing, people with Parkinson’s disease, caregivers and friends are encouraged to explore dance movements in a welcoming environment with LIVE MUSIC. No dance experience necessary.
These classes are based on Dance for PD®, a program developed by Mark Morris Dance Group and the Brooklyn Parkinson Group. STG’s Dance for PD® classes are offered in partnership with the Booth Gardner Parkinson’s Care Center at Evergreen Hospital Medical Center, Spectrum Dance Company, Northwest Parkinson’s Foundation and the Des Moines Senior Center.
