Young Songwriter’s Lab is for young musicians (ages 14 - early 20s) interested in pursuing their artistic vision as songwriters and lyricists. Under the mentorship of professional musicians, students learn creative approaches to song composition and lyric writing, along with strategies for navigating the music business. All styles of music are welcome. Students will:

  • Learn songwriting tools from leading Seattle songwriters, musicians, and hip-hop artists
  • Learn creative approaches to lyric writing, music composition, music arrangement, melody, harmony, and music production
  • Develop individual and group songwriting skills
  • Perform your music at an informal showing for friends and family
  • Learn how to navigate the music business
  • Gain experience in giving and receiving constructive feedback
  • Receive tickets to selected music shows at The Paramount and Moore Theatres to expand songwriting perspectives
  • Be considered to present your work at More Music @ The Moore (The Moore Theatre)

Dates: July 23-27, 2012, 12pm - 5pm each day
Location: The Neptune Theatre (1303 NE 45th Street)

  • Dumi Maraire - hip-hop artist & producer
  • Jill Wangsgard - composer, arranger, producer
  • Sue Ennis - songwriter for Heart
  • Bernadette Bascom – vocal & performance coach
  • Plus guest artists

Young Songwriter’s Lab is open to serious, aspiring musicians, ages 14 - early 20s, who are interested in growing as songwriters and performers.
