STG Presents & 4Culture welcomes the Poetry on Buses Launch Party to The Moore Theatre on April 24, 2017.
Water moves through us, connects us, across beliefs and continents, through ancestral memories, stories and the rain that falls on us. Your body of water is part of the water cycle. Bring your cloudy, rainy, river self to the launch party of Poetry on Buses 2017!
--Jourdan Imani Keith, Poet Planner
Celebrate the launch of Poetry on Buses 2017, this year on buses, streetcars and trains, too! Join a free and all ages celebration of poetry and movement:
§ Hop on a Poetry Bus
§ Readings by 30+ local poets in Amharic, Chinese, English, Punjabi, Russian, Spanish, Tlingit and Vietnamese
§ Dance performances by Kiana and Milvia and Hengda Dance Academy
§ Musical performances by Gabriel Teodros, Native Jazz Trio and Revolver
§ Premier of the Your Body of Water Collection – all 365 poems!
In 2016, King County residents were invited to share their original poetry on the theme of water. After receiving more than 1,600 submissions in eight languages, 365 poems were selected for publication online (a new poem a day for year!) and 120 poems for display on public transit. On April 24, we celebrate the launch of a new year of new poetry.
Poetry on Buses is a partnership between 4Culture, the Seattle Office of Arts & Culture, Sound Transit, King County Metro Transit, Seattle Streetcar, King County Department of Natural Resources & Parks: Water & Land Resources and Wastewater Treatment Divisions, and Seattle Public Utilities.
