STG presents Chucho Valdes at The Neptune Theatre in Seattle on Saturday, November 3, 2012.
In 1965, Chucho Valdes paved the way for a new era of Cuban Popular Music, better known as “Guapacha.” He later founded “Irakera,” which is widely recognized as the most important group in Cuban musical history in the second half of the 20th century. An explosive mixture of jazz, rock, classical, and traditional Cuban music, “Irakere” produced a sound that had never been heard before, revolutionizing Latin Music. “Guapacha,” a form of popular Cuban music is a signature of this five time Grammy award-winner, and recipient of 3 Latin Grammy Awards. Having shared the stage with such musical luminaries as Herbie Hancock, Billy Taylor, Chick Corea, Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Brandford and Wynton Marsalis, Carlos Santana, Grover Washington Jr., Dizzy Gillespie, Taj Mahal, and Tito Puente to name but a few, Chucho Valdes, considered one of the best pianist in the world, brings his revolutionary-style Latin music to Seattle.
Chucho Valdes has toured in more than 50 countries. Valdes has been considered by critics, as one of the best pianists in the world.
