Seattle Theatre Group stands in solidarity with Jacob Blake and his family, as well as the families of George Floyd, Charleena Lyles, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery and the many others who have been lost to systemic racism in the justice system and beyond.
The STG management team is continuing to examine what role we play in complicity and what role we will play in the eradication of hate. Our vision is to be "The People's Theatre," where all are welcomed and represented. Although we are proud of the work we have done in offering diverse performances and rich education programs, we understand that our vision is one which has yet to be fully manifested. We have more work to do.
While we remain closed, with our finances restricted and many of our normal means of engaging our community removed - we've struggled with finding our place in taking more immediate action. STG’s management team is focused on learning, listening and being thoughtful around all actions we develop and take. We do know that more should, and must be done. We are committed and have begun to use this time as a reset – a time to evolve STG with a far greater commitment to our Black community and all communities of color.
