STG & SJFF Silent Movie Mondays - The Ancient Law / Das Alte Gesetz (1923) at The Paramount Theatre on March 23, 2020 as a part of our 2019-2020 performing arts season. This is a special presentation in partnership with the 25th anniversary of the Seattle Jewish Film Festival.
This German film, directed by E.A. Dupont, tells the story of the son of an Orthodox Rabbi from a poor shtetl who breaks with family tradition and leaves to become an actor. Featuring original live music by world-renowned klezmer violinist Alicia Svigals (founder of the Klezmatics) and celebrated silent film composer/pianist Donald Sosin, piano, with special guest clarinetist Laura DeLuca (from Music of Remembrance).
Digitally restored film from the Deutsche Kinemathek (Berlin) and live performance underwritten by the Sunrise Foundation for Education and the Arts.
