STG has made the decision to pause our in-person programming, including Disney Musicals In Schools, due to COVID-19. This is a preventative measure taken to support the health and well-being of our students, teaching team and partners as per the guidelines set by the CDC. Thank you in advance for your understanding. We look forward to resuming our in-person programming once restrictions are lifted.
If you are able to donate to support any of our programs, please Donate Now - thank you!
Disney Musicals In Schools is a free program where STG Teaching Artists partner with educators and staff members in selected Title I elementary schools to produce Disney KIDS musicals and create sustainable theatre programs at their schools.
In March 2014, Disney Theatrical Group selected Seattle Theatre Group® as a Disney Musicals in Schools affiliate. STG received training and seed money to launch this program in Washington.
From 2014-2020, Seattle Theatre Group®’s Disney Musicals in Schools teaching artists partnered with educators in selected Title I elementary schools to produce Disney KIDS musicals and create sustainable theatre programs at their schools. Together, teaching artists and educators collaborated by mounting a 30-minute Disney KIDS show for their school. This 18-week program culminated in a Student Share Celebration at the historic Paramount Theatre.
Due to COVID-19, the current health needs of our community, and the modifications of in-school protocol, STG is pausing our in-person programming of Disney Musicals In Schools for the 2020-2021 school year. The health and safety of our community is a priority. We will continue to partner with schools to provide arts education support in a digital format. If your school is interested in building a partnership with Seattle Theatre Group for digital arts programming in the 2020-2021 school year or joining the Disney Musicals In Schools program beyond the 2020-2021 school year, please complete this interest form.
STG selects up to four Title I elementary schools to participate in Disney Musicals in Schools.
Selected schools will receive free performances rights (valid for one year) to a Disney KIDS musical of their choosing as well as a
complimentary ShowKit. The ShowKit includes materials and resources to aid teachers in producing, directing, and choreographing the show.
Selected schools will commit a team of at least 3-5 teachers and staff members to the
program. At least one of these individuals must be an arts specialist (of any discipline). This School Team will receive onsite support and training from a team of two STG Teaching Artists during the rehearsal and production process (during a
90 minute school visit each week). The School Team will also be responsible for an additional 90 minute rehearsal each week, without the presence of the Teaching Artists.
The Teaching Artists will serve as production and creative
advisors who will train and empower the School Team to run the program themselves. The Teaching Artists will guide the School Team through both production management (developing a rehearsal schedule, running auditions, and addressing technical
and physical production requirements) and the creative execution of the show (direction, choreography, acting, and design). The Teaching Artists will also advise on cross-curricular connections and provide guidance on involving parents, the
school community, and the wider community in this project.
Disney KIDS Musicals are designed to be produced on any budget. Teaching Artists will work with selected School Teams to create a production within the budget the school
is able to allocate to this project.
- Host a site visit for the selection team during the interview process.
- Identify a School Team comprising at least 3-5 teachers and staff members, including one arts specialist (any discipline), who will oversee and manage the program from beginning to end.

- Produce a 30-minute Disney KIDS musical involving 3rd-5th graders both on and off stage.
- Provide space, time, materials, and resources for students and the School Team to rehearse and prepare for the musical production. The space must be open with room for participating students to move, dance, and sing loudly.
- Provide opportunities for the whole school to be connected to the production.
- Involve parents and the larger community in the mounting of the production.
- Hold a minimum of one public performance of the musical.

Here is what teachers and artists are saying about Disney Musicals in Schools:
Thank you so much for supporting our school and providing us with this opportunity. We will continue to integrate theater arts into our
curriculum as well as many other of the arts and enrichments for our students. It has been a wonderful experience for our entire school community. - Participating Principal
Watching our students grow day to day in
confidence, ability, and character has been the most rewarding thing. These kids have truly shown that they are capable of achieving amazing things. We are so grateful as a school to have had this opportunity from STG. It has made such an
impact on our students, staff, and community. - Participating Teacher
Our students have grown in their abilities and confidence in this time, and having this opportunity has given many of those students who might never
had the chance to perform, the chance to shine. We could not have done this without a giant team of people including staff, families, STG, and Disney Musicals In Schools. They believe in our kids and we can’t wait to see what their future
will bring! - Participating Teacher
This was our 5th year performing a Disney musical. The musical has really become a staple of our school culture. The kids are already looking forward to next year and talking about
what parts they want in our next show! Thanks for bringing a smile to our students’ faces and helping to keep the arts a priority. - Participating Teacher
