STG Presents Ben Folds at The Moore Theatre on Friday, September 29, 2017.
Multi-platinum selling, singer/composer/producer Ben Folds has announced a series of new solo rock concert dates for Fall 2017 entitled his “Paper Airplane Request Tour.” The tour kicks off on August 27 and runs through November 12.
What initially began as a request for songs as encores in his shows, has now become a central element for many of Folds solo shows when, as he begins the second half of his concert performances, he cues the audience to launch their song requests toward the stage via paper airplanes.
“Taking paper airplane requests from fans is fun, and gives everyone in the room a chance to request what they’d like to hear,” said Folds. “The first time I brought up paper airplane requests was when I tweeted before a show: ‘If you have a song you want me to play, then write it down on a piece of paper and launch it as a paper airplane after I give the countdown.’ The response was incredible, with waves of paper airplanes flying from the audience on to the stage right on cue.”
Folds, who is expected to return to the studio in 2018 to begin work on new music, is touring once again to deliver his power piano solo performance, drawing from his enormous body of original genre-bending music that spans over two decades, works that include hit solo albums, critically-acclaimed albums with the Ben Folds Five, numerous film and TV scores, and collaborative records with artists from Sara Bareilles to William Shatner.
Folds, recently named the first-ever Artistic Advisor to the National Symphony Orchestra at the Kennedy Center, is widely regarded as one of the major music influencers of our generation.
Vibe Music Blog has described Folds LIVE performances this way: “Onstage, he’s is just a wonder to watch, as a pianist, as a lyricist, as a composer, a conductor, and as a man.”
Folds first found international success as the leader of the Ben Folds Five. His subsequent solo career has seen the release of multiple studio albums, a pair documenting his renowned live performances, a remix collection, music for film and TV, an all a capella record, as well as numerous collaborations with a wide spectrum of artists.
