STG Presents Live Wire with Luke Burbank at The Neptune on Saturday, September 30, 2017.
Join Emmy award-winning host Luke Burbank for a taping of Live Wire, the fastest growing entertainment show on public radio. We’ve got a late-night stride, an Oscar Wilde wit, and the charisma of Ferris Bueller grand marshaling a parade. Music, comedy, and conversation, live and packed with surprises. This special Seattle taping is sponsored by KUOW. Learn more about our fascinating guests below!
You wish Lynn Shelton directed your life. The filmmaker behind Touchy Feely, Laggies, and Your Sister’s Sister, as well as your favorite episodes of shows like Master of None, New Girl, Love, and GLOW, Shelton has a knack for telling intimate, honest stories in beautiful, funny ways. With her new movie Outside In with Jay Duplass and Edie Falco, Shelton is showing us all the ways we wish our lives looked on screen.
Kevin Avery is a man behind a lot of scenes. Emmy award winning writer for HBO’s Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, FX’s Totally Biased with W. Kamau Bell, and writer and star of Thugs, the Musical, Avery is a standup with wit, awareness, and definite distinction. He’s not just behind the scene, this guy is the scene.
Thanh Tan is the host of Second Wave a new podcast from KUOW and PRX exploring the Vietnamese American experience. Tan is a child of refugees and longtime reporter. Currently a senior communications manager at Microsoft, Thanh has worked as a columnist for The Seattle Times editorial board and an award-winning producer/reporter/host of documentaries for the Texas Tribune in Austin and PBS in Idaho. She is a founding member of Our Song, a Seattle-based volunteer oral history group finding ways to preserve Vietnamese heritage.
Hawaiian artist Makana’s name translates to “a gift freely given,” and we don’t think that’s an unfair translation of his music, either. A virtuoso from a young age at slack key guitar-- a 200 year old Hawaiian form-- Makana has been nominated for Grammys, performed for the Obamas, presented a Tedx talk, and wrote the anthem for the Occupy Wall Street movement, “We Are the Many.”
