It’s no secret: the performing arts are in big trouble. Since March 2020, STG has had to cancel or postpone over 590 performances. In response, we are now operating with a 81% reduction in staff as a necessary and painful step toward conserving our resources and ensuring STG’s long-term survival. If we are able to reopen in 2021, we will experience a shortfall of $15 million. That shortfall only increases if our closure continues.
STG is still here for you! We are committed to our community. Our Education & Community Engagement Department is providing a diverse selection of virtual events. Our Programming Department is ambitiously booking performances into 2022 and beyond. Our Preservation and Maintenance Team is working on critical projects at all three theatres. And, our Operations Team is focused on a safe and comprehensive reopening plan.
We are also taking a hard look at all aspects of our organization: equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility/access. We aim to truly live up to our aspiration to be The People’s Theatre, where all are welcomed and represented.
We need your help now more than ever as we safeguard The Paramount, Moore, and Neptune Theatres and prepare for a safe reopening. Any donation amount helps. Our primary revenue sources—tickets, theatre rentals, and concessions—do not exist at this time. Your support is necessary to ensure that STG’s theatres, programs, and performances are here for you when we emerge from this devastating time.
Thank you. We can’t wait to welcome you back!
STG is the people’s theatre. All are welcomed and represented.
STG is so much more than the shows on our stages. Our mission is to create enriching experiences in the arts, engage diverse communities, and steward historic theatres. We present over 700 events annually at the Paramount, Moore, and Neptune Theatres, as well as at venues and community spaces throughout the region. Our programming includes Broadway, concerts, theatre, dance, and film, catering to a broad range of audiences. Additionally, STG offers over 200 opportunities annually to engage with master classes, professional mentorships, youth enrichment programs, access initiatives, free community events, and more. Please consider supporting the vital, life-changing work of STG today.

Charitable Deductions for Tax Purposes
The CARES Act provides An Opportunity to Increase Charitable Deductions for Tax Purposes
To encourage charitable giving, the federal CARES Act of 2020 raises limits on charitable contribution deductions for tax purposes for individuals and corporations.
- Those not itemizing deductions are now permitted an “above-the-line” deduction for cash contributions up to $300 ($600 for joint filers). This effectively reduces adjusted gross income (AGI). The new deduction will be available for 2020 and 2021.
- Those who itemize can deduct up to 100% of AGI this calendar year only, up from 60%. The additional 40% must be cash contributions made directly to qualified charitable organizations, such as STG. If a greater amount is gifted, it may be "carried over" to 2021. Note that there are limitations on the first 60% of charitable giving. For example, only 30% of AGI may be in the form of appreciated assets, such as stock. As noted below, donors are advised to consult their legal and tax experts.
- Incremental tax-saving opportunities exist for IRA rollovers into Roth IRAs.
For corporations, the deduction ceiling on cash contributions is increased from 10% to 25% of AGI. This applies to 2020 gifts only.
Donors are advised to make decisions in consultation with their tax and legal advisors.
