James Moore

James A. Moore was a Canadian visionary real estate developer who arrived in Seattle in 1886. He was a man involved in many different ventures. His first project involved a steamer service on Lake Union. After which he developed 1800 acres in the Seattle area including the UW’s downtown Metropolitan tract, the Smith Tower and several other buildings. After the Denny Regrade project he rebuilt his Washington Hotel along with the Moore Hotel and attached revolutionary Moore Theatre. Other not so successful ventures included mining and a huge land development in Florida. Unfortunately, he died penny-less in 1929 having created a billion dollars in property values in his lifetime.
