STG Presents Taylor Mac - A 24-Decade History of Popular Music (Abridged) at The Moore Theatre on April 20, 2018. Presented in association with On the Boards.
A 24-Decade History of Popular Music: 1956-1986
Bayard Rustin’s March on Washington leads to Marsha P. Johnson’s “shot glass heard ‘round the world;” Queer Riots; Sexual deviance as revolution. Tackling this divisive era of American history through the lens of “trickle up humanitarianism," Mac gives voice to figures whose stories have been widely dismissed or buried in mainstream American culture, reminding us that “You can’t solve it with one march or one ride on the bus.” Featuring music ranging from protest anthems to "the greatest makeout song of all time," Mac is joined by his band, led by music director and arranger Matt Ray—plus Detroit-based vocalists Steffanie Christi'an and Thornetta Davis. The show also features longtime collaborator and costume designer, Machine Dazzle.
