STG Presents Seattle On Ice!: Smokey Brights + The True Loves at The Neptune on Thursday, December 6, 2018.

Seattle’s Smokey Brights is a story of love and pizza. Husband and wife duo Ryan Devlin and Kim West first met while slinging pies at a south Seattle restaurant in their early 20s. Devlin, a fixture in the Northwest’s thriving DIY rock scene, and West, an aspiring law student, started writing and recording songs in Devlin’s bedroom during a cash-strapped Christmas as their friendship blossomed into romance. Pulling from their mutual love of 70s rock, vintage synthesizers, thrift shop treasures, and early MTV, the pair’s bond permeated their pop songcraft. The duo, joined by drummer Nick Krivchenia and bassist Luke Logan, create a stoney blend of Northwest rock & roll and razor-sharp disco grooves that Impose Magazine has called “a modern bit of AM radio gold.”

The group released their first LP, Taste For Blood, in 2014 to regional acclaim and heavy airplay and support from iconic radio station KEXP. Catching the attention of upstart label Freakout Records, the band released their sophomore LP, Hot Candy, in 2016. This record saw Smokey Brights taking their first steps onto the national stage with supporting slots for big-label artists and festival plays at Sasquatch!, Bumbershoot, and Capitol Hill Block Party. For their most recent efforts, the Come To Terms EP and Different Windows EP, the band has perfected their groovy and infectious style, touring nationwide with international appearances slated for the latter half of 2018. There’s still a lotta love. And a whole lotta pizza.

True Loves are an 8-piece instrumental Soul group out of Seattle, WA that got their start during the early spring of 2014 when drummer David McGraw, bassist Bryant Moore, and guitarist Jabrille “Jimmy James” Williams began jamming. The band expanded quickly, adding keys, horns, auxiliary percussion, and singer Grace Love, a heavy hitting vocalist with an uncanny ability to improvise song lyrics. Songs started flowing and soon thereafter the band was in Studio Litho recording their debut album, Grace Love & the True Loves. The album features such radio hits as Fire and Nobody Sweeter and was #19 on KEXPs Top 100 Albums of 2015. The group split with Love in August 2016 and was back in the studio in January of 2017 to record their debut instrumental album, Famous Last Words, which was released in July of the same year. The album features high-energy bangers and mid-tempo groovers that showcase what the band does best: playing in an unrelenting pocket. To promote the album release, the band headlined a sold-out TimberFest 2017 featuring the vocal talents of Daptone Records Saun & Starr. True Loves recently finished a sold-out two-night stint at Seattle’s Tractor Tavern in addition to completing their first East Coast tour, playing The Rosslyn Jazzfest and Rockwood Music Hall.
