STG Presents Kate Wallich + The YC at The Moore Theatre on November 13, 2018.
Industrial Ballet is an evening-length dance and live music super-show deeply inspired by the transgressive industrial music of the '80s and '90s. THE YC is joined by a stellar group of musicians in this darkly glittering large-scale production.
Kate Wallich is a Seattle-based choreographer, director and educator – named one of Dance Magazine’s “25 to Watch”. She trained at Interlochen Arts Academy and holds a BFA Magna Cum Laude from Cornish College of the Arts. Kate has left a significant mark in the Pacific Northwest, having been commissioned and presented by leading institutions including On the Boards, Seattle Theater Group, Velocity Dance Center, Seattle Art Museum, Pacific Northwest Ballet, Whim W’Him, Northwest Dance Project, Frye Art Museum and Henry Art Gallery. Her popular community class Dance Church™ that was founded in 2010 brings in 250+ people per week, and has partnered with local non-profit organizations including Raincity Rock Camp for Girls, Waterfront Seattle and Team Survivor NW among others. She co-founded her company The YC with Lavinia Vago in 2010 and has created four evening-length works and 3 large scale site-specific works. Nationally, Kate’s work has been presented at The Joyce, Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival Inside/Out and Newfields/Indianapolis Museum of Art. She has been a Visiting Artist at NCC/Akron with BodyTraffic, University of Washington, University of Oregon, Cornish College of the Arts, University of Utah and Beloit College. Internationally, her work has been presented at Springboard Danse Montreal and SPOTLIGHT: USA Festival in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. In 2016 she founded Studio Kate Wallich, a non-profit organization dedicated to cultivating a community of artists and the public through dance based, design forward experiences. The Studio supports The YC, Dance Church™, and YC2 — a platform for young dance professionals entering the working field. Kate was a 2013 and 2015 Rauschenberg Residency fellow and has received awards and grants from 4Culture, Artist Trust, The Glenn H. Kawasaki Foundation, MANA Contemporary, and Seattle Magazine.
